11Eyes – Episode 1

11 October 2009 By Sam No Comment

Opening Theme
Arrival of Tears by Ayane

What can I say…. this is what first got me thinking that this could be a follow up series of Persona 3. Seriously, the fact that they have the image of all the female characters eyes the same style as they did in Persona 3, a few shots of the moon, the city under the impression of the dark hour and the shadow looking creatures, automatically got my interest in it. The song is a fast paced song and it was enjoyable to listen to, however I must admit that the song was drowned out by my interest in the animated sections, not a bad thing of course. No complaints on my side.

Ending Theme
Sequentia by Asriel

The ending animation didn’t have as great an effect on me as the opening however to continue the Persona 3 comparison, even the bridge they showed in the first few seconds looked like the one that appears in the town map. Anyway, I am still pretty much impressed by the animation/art used. It looked really good overall, so no complaints from me. Song was equally as good as the opening theme.

Opinion

Since this is the first episode I plan on only offering my opinions of the episode instead of the whole summary/review thing I do with all other episodes. First off, the graphics of this series is overall impressive so far. They managed to capture the suspense of the Red Night and both the setting and the appearance of the monsters were more than satisfying for me, I also liked the odd way they travelled from the Real World to the Red Night and vice versa, through the odd graphical shifts and the glass smashing. The real world still looks like it comes from Persona 3 and is graphically well done as well, despite potentially being a tad bland.

The music was also decent however I didn’t pay so much attention to it. Voice acting is also suitable for the characters that they represent. The main characters shown in this episode, Kakeru and Yuka seem likeable enough however even if I watched this series all the way through I still doubt I will be able to separate Kakeru from the Persona 3 Protagonist that easy. Still, they both seem like good enough main characters with seemingly enough backstory to last (Such as the opening murder scene and the mysterious eyepatch). Storyline seems decent as well, however time will tell, here is a summary that is from the MyAnimeList.net page for 11Eyes.

Satsuki Kakeru lost his sister by suicide and has been living a dull life ever since then. One day, he is transported into a bizarre world “Red Night” along with his friend Minase Yuka. In order to survive and escape from Red Night, he fights against Dark Spirits (Ralva) and Black Nights.

Overall, there is a decent chance that I shall be blogging this every week.
